Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. Wiktionary is a wiki, which means that you can edit it, and all the content is dual-licensed under both the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License as well as the GNU Free Documentation License. Definitions of the term refer variably to antipathy, contempt, prejudice, aversion, and irrational fear. Homophobia is observable in critical and hostile behavior such as discrimination and violence on the basis of a non-heterosexual orientation. In a 1998 address, author, activist, and civil rights leader Coretta Scott King stated that "Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood." Among some more discussed forms of homophobia are institutionalized homophobia (e.g. religious homophobia and state-sponsored homophobia), lesbophobia - the intersection of homophobia and sexism directed against lesbians, and internalized homophobia - a form of homophobia among people who experience same-sex attraction regardless of whether or not they identify as LGBT. Two words originate from homophobia: homophobic (adj.) and homophobe (n.), the latter word being a label for a person who displays homophobia or is thought to do so. From Wikipedia under the

Homophobia is God's way of helping you from homosexuals, you should accept your homophobia, as long as it doesn't become violent!! Then everyone wins, they get their sodomy and we get eternal bliss in heaven. Christianity Rawwwks! Answered by Paul - Tue Nov 24 19:28:05 2009 What do homophobia and racism have in common? Q. Remember when women had no rights? (in America) Remember when blacks had no rights?(America again) Now we are in a time when Gays have no rights. They can't adopt children, or get married. That is discrimination. What rights do the government have to deny people from living free in a free country. It seems to be religous to me. Wasn't this country founded by people running from a country that's doing the same thing this one is now? What are your veiws? I'm open to anything. They are both foolish, close-minded views of the world, and even if you still feel that way, people need to learn to accept people for who they are. Because laws banning something just because that is how they are IS wrong (not to mention unconstitutional.) For example, those who were racist puts laws in place not giving blacks the same rights as everyone else. Now they rightfully have all the rights back. Same with homosexuals. Some want laws against any sort of civil union for them. Eventually, hopefully, this phase will pass. While I'm not gay, who am I to say that I can be in a binding relationship, recognized by the government, but homosexuals can't? That's not fair, is it? Eventually, this will all pass. I just hope we, as… [cont.] Answered by amg503 - Wed Jun 14 14:47:23 2006 How do you deal with your own homophobia?
Q. Homophobia is part of the human condition. As a learnt skill of survival it stays with us for the rest of our lives from the time we discovered it at junior school. Homophobia can be internalised (hating the way we behave, act, or the image we send to others) , projected to others or both. Any further argument welcome, personal experiences dealing with personal homophobia, very, very welcome! Asked by Discolo - Tue Oct 30 15:33:42 2007 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments A. I'm very surprised at some of the answers on here. The asker is merely asking how LGBT people dealt with their "internalised homophobia" which is something a lot of people suffer from in their early stages of coming to terms with their own sexuality. Those who were young, up until the late eighties, were conditioned into thinking there was something wrong with homosexuality. People who are based in the UK will remember the famous "Section 28" rule which was implemented in the education system. A lot of LGBT people do suffer from internalised homophobia in the early stages of coming out. This can take different forms, either with hatred being directed inwards (feeling bad about their same sex attraction) - or even externally (subjecting… [cont.] Answered by nemesis - Thu Nov 1 06:32:33 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "homophobia" Homophobia Directory
